Using very light jets, known as VLJ, to operate an air charter service is an untried business model that has its detractors, not least in an economic crisis that is affecting the business aviation industry. A very light jet is a jet aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 4.500 kg. Very light jets, furthermore, need a runway up to 1036 m. Very light jets can transport from four to six passengers. The growth of the air taxi business in Europe has opened way to an important market for the very light jets for the next ten years. The VLJ air charter carriers would be based in small airports, but will contribute to link all the most important destinations in Europe. The European carriers are also evaluating to start their operations in Asia Pacific and Middle East shortly. The VLJ business is estimated nearly $10 billion, and the manufacturers are forecasting to obtain a significant slice of the market. The air taxi companies will be focused on the first class passengers of commercial airlines as well as the air charter passengers.
